Hammond Park is a community sport and recreation facility in the City of Cockburn.
This project encompassed the construction of 21 multi-purpose sports courts, along with modern club rooms, a crèche and air-conditioned meeting rooms.
The sports courts cover an area of over 17,000m². The courts were completed to stringent quality standards and feature a high-grip rubberised surface finish over the bitumen substrate.
Construction of the building consisted of concrete pre-cast panels, constructed off-site using a tunnel formwork system, which has been used successfully on a number of previous Diploma projects. This approach yielded time savings and mitigated the risk of delays due to inclement weather. Of note within the building entrance are a number of feature concrete panels, which incorporate a sporting theme devised by a child from the local area.
A conservation wetland area within the construction site posed a unique challenge in terms of access. Careful materials handling ensured this area was preserved.
The entire project met government quality requirements and was completed on time and within budget.
